Endeavour Green

Plug in and cast off on the Endeavour Green, a 24-foot electric hybrid boat.

By Peter A. Janssen

Cruising across Florida, from the Gulf to the Atlantic, opens up entirely new destinations whether you're starting on the east or the west coast. The 200-mile trip from Fort Myers across the state via the Caloosahatchee and Lake Okeechobee to Stuart (or the reverse) is a treat; in may spots, where cattle come down to graze, you'll think you're in the Wild West. Most of us have to figure in gas or diesel fuel costs for such a trip. Not the Endeavour Green. A 24-foot electric hybrid, the Endeavour Green figures it will complete the cruise at a total cost of about $2 a day for electricity averaging 5 knots. And you'll be comfortable: the battery-driven boat (plus a 3.5 kW diesel generator) has a private head and a 16,000 BTU air conditioner. We tested the boat recently in St. Petersburg and didn't even realize we had left the dock, it was so quiet. For more, see Waypoints in this issue, or go to endeavourgreen.com.
