Blogs We Like - Best Boat Buzz: Welcome Aboard!

The following is an excerpt from bestboatbuzz.com.

My name is Kate, and my ultimate goal in life is to live eight months in Florida and four months in New England — enjoying the best of both worlds. This would allow me the opportunity to do what I absolutely love: boat. I bought my first boat about 20 years ago, paying cash for an old IMP. It was a $5,000 investment that would become the passion of my life. I learned boating the way many of us have, through trial and error. As one of the few women boat owners on the Merrimack River, I quickly became recognized as "Blondie" behind the helm. I took it as a compliment at first, but I realized later the nickname was a result of my many blunders. I will be sharing some of the finer, or funnier, "lessons learned" in this blog. That boat died, but the passion never did.

I went without a boat for several years after that. Then, back in 2001, I got a job as a tour guide, or "ConDUCKtor," for Boston Duck Tours. Being out on the Charles River in Boston all day reignited the flame. Today, I own a 1968 28-foot Hatteras. I bought it eight years ago, and it's been a work in progress ever since. With the boating season quickly approaching, I am starting my "to-do" list now.

I created this blog with the hope of sharing tips between boaters who have learned, as I did, through hits and misses.

First tip: If you use blue tape for any job, do not leave the tape on for more than three weeks. Two seasons later, I finally got it all off (with a little help from my friends).

Second tip: Don't let anyone tow you bow-to-stern on a very long line with a cement icebreaker in the middle of the channel.

So, welcome aboard and check back often to learn and share all the wonderful things that are part of an avid boater's life.
